Arimidex (Anastraol) comes under the class of anti-estrogen drugs and inhibitors. Arimidex is considered very effective for the treatment of breast cancer in women. However, it does not help in the complete recovery from breast cancer, because it facilitates in slowing down the growth of advanced cancer. Moreover, the conversion of oestrogen is facilitated with the help of an enzyme, known as aromatase. Arimidex is considered good for minimising oestrogen levels as well. It is better to have a blood test, to check the level of oestrogen, after taking Arimidex for a week. In fact, it functions to block the conversion of aromatisable steroids into oestrogen. Unlike other such drugs, it completely blocks the conversion in any tissue of the body. Like other drugs, there are a few side effects of Arimidex, which can be minimised by the recommendations of a doctor. For example, it results in shortness of breath. The patient may feel dizziness and tiredness. Sometimes it can result in vomiting and diarrhoea. A mild feeling of weakness and headache are other common side effects of Arimidex. Most people complain that they feel abdominal and bone pain after taking Arimidex. One thing that is very important about Arimidex is that it can be toxic to your liver if taken in high doses. If you take a high dose then you should visit your doctor immediately. Therefore Arimidex is a good inhibitor and anti-oestrogen drug.
